Water Service Line

Inventory Project

The City of Dexter is working with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to complete a required inventory of water service lines throughout the community. As part of this effort, residents may receive a letter explaining the project and how it could affect their property.

This project is designed to identify the materials used in water service lines, including any lines that may contain lead or lead-related materials. Dexter's water system has not had any tests indicating a lead problem in the drinking water, but federal regulations require all public water systems to complete an inventory of service line materials.

Most customers will not experience any interruption in water service. In some cases, additional inspection or testing may be needed to determine the material of a service line. If this becomes necessary, affected customers will be contacted directly.

The information gathered through this project will help the City maintain accurate records, improve public health protection, and qualify for potential funding opportunities if service line replacements are needed in the future.

Residents with questions about the project may contact Dexter City Hall at 573-624-5959. Additional information is included with the letter mailed to customers.
