Designation as a Tree City
The City of Dexter, Missouri has maintained its designation as a Tree City USA community for 33 consecutive years through the Arbor Day Foundation. This designation recognizes the City’s ongoing management of public trees and its compliance with national urban forestry standards. To qualify, communities must maintain a tree ordinance, establish a tree board, implement a community forestry program, and conduct an annual Arbor Day observance. Dexter continues to meet these requirements. The City operates a tree board responsible for oversight of tree management activities. The Dexter Park and Recreation Department also administers the Commem-A-Tree Program, which allows individuals to sponsor tree plantings in recognition of persons or events. The program includes installation of a tree and plaque with a $125 donation. Dexter’s continued participation reflects its commitment to maintaining and managing its public tree resources.
